Hundreds of American and South Korean soldiers took part in a military exercise on Tuesday in Yeoju, southeast of Seoul.
The joint military efforts help ensure that South Korean borders are better defended against aggression from the North.
[Lt. Col. Matthew Lews, U.S. Air Force]:
"The more effective we are, the stronger we are. We are able to continue to defend the peninsula and keep peace and security of Korean peninsula."
The U.S. has about 28,500 troops on the Korean peninsula, supporting South Korea's 670,000 soldiers.
The two Koreas are technically still at war since the Korean War ended in a ceasefire, but not a peace treaty back in 1953.
The drill comes as U.S. envoy for North Korea, Stephen Bosworth, visits the reclusive country to encourage negotiations regarding nuclear arms.
