The avro arrow CF-105 Mk I had came within a few mph of breaking the 0-50k climb rate without trying because it was still in break in mode with the J-75. Also, the Arrow was the most advanced at the time due to utilizing 4000 PSI hydraulic flight controls. Also, if the Arrow-err more specifically didn't contribute anything to modern flight, maybe to those people should read about the Iroquois as it pioneered exotic materials and advanced airfoil design for its compressors. 19000 lbsf of static

I went to school where the engines were manufactured. Look up Nobel, Ontario and Avro Arrow.

@rune9k3rp9: That is correct. If adjusted for inflation, $12.5M in 1959 would be the equivalent of $92.4M today. Makes the F-35 look like a bargain.

@rune9k3rp9 the figure you are speaking of is incorrect. Read Fred Smyes book canadian aviation and the Avro arrow available on line just type in his name. he was president of the company and knew the real figures. Randall whitcombs books and arrows to the moon are quite revalatory as well.

@raynus1 I hear you my friend we know what Avro was all about and that the Americans did not wanna let us succeed to have the best and fastest Interceptor. There's no point to even argue with those guys their American"pride"will never admit to the Arrow. If it succeeded Avros now would be the premier NATO Interceptors I had the fortune to see the beautiful Girl in person at Wetaskivin at the Reynolds-Alberta Aviation and Transportation Museum.Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year my friend

bad ass plane
@racecardriver467: What weapons system? Avro scuttled its plans for the ASTRA/Sparrow II system, and elected to equip production MK II's with the American Hughes/Falcon/Genie weapons system. Aircraft 202 was being fitted with the Hughes system when the axe fell.

@jozsefkacsa: I disagree. The USA provided Avro Canada with wind tunnels at three different stateside locations for airframe testing, provided J-75 engines for the first five aircraft, provided a B-47 Stratojet for in-flight testing of the PS.13 Iroquios engine, and was to provide the Hughes fire control system, complete with Falcon missiles and Douglas AIR-2 Genie rockets for production CF-105's. To say the USA interfered with the program is disingenuous. Same to you.
