The Germanic pagan temple at Uppåkra.
In 2000--2004, excavations in Uppåkra, south of Lund in Scania revealed that a heathen hof was located there for several hundred years

  • @EagleTalon1970 Well they praid to their gods, and the western christans monks that wrote much about the vikings attacks was hardly neutral in their descriptions about the viking attacks. The monks were the news paper of that time. They did never mention that the west christans waged a brutal war against the Danes for and example, that may have trigged the whole viking invasion period.

    Cheers

  • The fortresstown, probably known as Lund until it 960 AD, was burnt down by Eigil Skallagrimsson and hi´s men, described by him in the poem 'Ekkjur LundaR', "the widows of Lund". For me is this one of the main real reasons behind the seabattle of Svolder. The intelligent 'Skjoldungar' needed to find a fitting political scenery in Scandinavia before carrying out the revenge against nowegians..

  • Uppåkra IS Hrothgar´s village, the scene where the main events in Beowulf is taking place. The pagan temple or the 50 m longhouse from the 5th c, could be Heorot. All the important objects described in Beowulf AND Widsith have been found there. The local legends talks about a once magnificent burrough situated there.
