There were no inhabitants in main land New Zealand and that is a scientific fact. There is a second group of indigenous New Zealanders called the Moriori who live in the Chathams far from the mainland who are also Polynesian. There was a massacre of them in the nineteenth century but both Maori (one tribe specifically) and Pakeha are to blame for that and Moriori survive and are reasserting their culture. And every best wish to them.

,,,by the same token, no maori tribe has been able to live in harmony with another maori tribe. As long as the "Pakeha" funds such endeavours, indigenous persona will travel the world to retrieve traded smoked heads, severed & cured by rapacious tribes such as tuhoe.(non participitants of any treaty as "proudly" trumpeted,) Solution: tuhoe have their own "turf."
