By way of comparison with the Cortot and Perlemuter recordings of the Liszt Legend No 2 (Saint Francis), here is Horowitz 1947 Carnegie Hall performance of that work.

  • I love waves!!!

  • This performance is a failure guys, sorry to say. Horowitz, in his usual fashion, bangs his way all the way through as if there is a race going on. I'm pretty sure this is not what Liszt had in mind when composing this religious piece. Wanna race? Try Rhapsodies 2 or 6 for instance, not this one. Check Cziffra's rendition, also on youtube.

  • Horowitz's waves are better then any others!

  • sounds REALLY fresh! :D horowitz was inventing genius.....

  • The incomparable Horowitz sound in sharp focus, thank you!

  • If you're interested it says, "To my dear colleague Emil Gilels, from a sincere fan of his talent, to a new friend. V. Horowitz"

  • This performance is incredible, i can't imagine anything more ear catching. Very different approach from other pianists playing this piece.

  • What a shocking difference! The Perlemuter performance is SO powerful, intriguing, and moving compared to this.
