Conchita Supervía (December 8, 1895 - March 30, 1936) was a successful Spanish mezzo-soprano singer.

"With all due respect to the many excellent--and a number of great--performances of Carmen's music recorded by singers from Calve onward, Conchita Supervia's interpretation remains for me the most memorable. She perfectly embodies the enchanting, capricious gypsy girl in all her moods from gaiety to sensuousness, to ironic and fatalistic. Her attention to the score and Bizet's directions is more sensitive than most singers give, but it all sounds quite spontaneous, a marvellous example of the art that conceals art. The best comparisons with Supervia's interpretation that I have heard are by Solange Michel in the French Columbia complete recording of 1950 and by Victoria de los Angeles in the 1959 Beecham version (...)".
by Elwood A. McKee.
No modification of the sound during transfer from the pretty much used original shellac.

When compared with Eugenia Mantelli (my "Habanera" YT video) I notice that there are so many colors in YOUR recording...
Thank you, Jerzy.

to Londyn.
Nie dziw, że tam ta płyta (!) była powtórnie tłoczona.

An unusually appealing voice. She made a trial cylinder for Thos Edison, who did not like her voice. Regrettably, that trial recording apparently does not survive. Thank you for the Supervia postings.

I like her "unusal" vibrato, although some
critic called it a machine gun, in lower part.
She is so vivid in her charm and musicianship...-
Best wishes, Geo, more voices of a higher importance will be appearing
from time to time.

Niezwykły, wibrująco-drżący głos i te cudowne tutaj zaśpiewy ze śmiechem!
Także kobieta wielkiej urody, jak udało mi
się zobaczyć na fotografiach.
I dziękuję za notkę biograficzną - chociaż
taka smutna.

To vibrato (szczególnie w "dole") - nie wszystkim krytykom
podobało się ale wszyscy uznawali
jej niezwykłą muzykalność
i umiejętność doskonałego wejścia
w określoną (daną) rolę.
Jej hiszpańskie dokonania - nie mają
sobie równych.

Delikatna muzyka, i piękny francuski język, prawdziwe dzieło sztuki muzycznej.
Dziękuję bardzo.
