Ex-Ashington No.38 hauling the demonstration coal train on Coal Train Day in 2000. Her we see the train climbing steadily from Causey towards Andrews House Station.
The oldest part of this gem in North-East England, opened c1647, was the Lobley Hill section, it had over 300 years of coal traffic when closed in 1964. The surviving 1725 Sunniside to Causey section - parts of which you see here - is now the World's Oldest Working Railway.

  • Should be good and worth visiting on Sat/Sun 19th/20th June. Coal Train Weekend complete with coal trains, passenger trains, brass band, display of mining lodge banners.
