This is the first segment of my FFVII speedrun!
This segment is far from perfect but there were already several difficulties:
I need certain stats for the Guard Scorpion battle, to be more precise I need at least 25 Magic with Cloud and 20 Str with Barret (those 2 stats vary from 23 to 26 and 17 to 22)
Then I also have to make sure Barret and Cloud receive enough damage. Ideal would be that both can get their Limits with one Tail Attack from Guard Scorpion but it's not so easy to make sure Cloud is damaged enough...that is unless you lose time by giving the enemies extra turns in the random battles.
There are of course some advantages to me needing to be damaged along the way, f.e. I don't have to restart until Cloud defeats the 2 guards while only being attacked once.
In this attempt Barret is damaged enough to get his Limit from a low-dam Tail attack (damage for Tail Attack ranges from 62 to 67) but Cloud isn't.
He is however damaged enough to get his Limit from 2x Rifle and from a max dam Tail Attack (67 damage).
I played it very safe, i.e. the configurations in the menu and the renaming of Cloud and Barret were slower than what they could have been, I didn't want to restart because I messed something up there. Overall this costs me 2-3 seconds.
Else I also did 2 small mistakes, one on the screen with Jessie and Biggs, where I take a little detour (no random encounters in this area so it's no biggie) and one on the screen with the big staircase. I usually am able to be ahead of Jessie before the second staircase but I missed that corner.
You'll notice I walk on the second screen, that's to avoid a random encounter (I only get 2 encounters on the way to the save instead of the usual 3).
You'll see me do this often throughout the run.
BrutalAl is the one figuring out how I have to run to avoid random encounters, so big thanks Brutal! ~.~
Time: 6:45
5 seconds ahead of Garland! Not really hard to be ahead with one random encounter less :P
My best was 6:36 btw, but of course I didn't have enough damage on the characters (didn't have the right stats either....).
Note: I'm playing the NTSC version on a PS2 with Disc speed set at Fast and Texture Mapping to Smooth. This is the exact same configuration that GarlandG is using, however any other setting (ps3, pc, pal etc...) will result in different times.
For more information concerning that and on the speedrun in general, check the speedrunfaq on gamefaqs (link in my profile).
Awesome, I'm looking forward to this, lolo. I've been checking on Garland's speed run for a while, hopefully he finds the time and sanity to start it up again soon.
I've also been thinking about starting one of my own, however it won't be a perfect run like yours, but just try to beat my previous time of 8:43:57.
Good luck! I'll be watching.

@squire636 Thanks ^^
I'm not sure how "perfect" it will be however, I knew Garland lost quite a lot of time (and we improved some stuff since he started) until AirBuster.
How well I match up to him for the rest of the run is something we'll have to see, I'll try my best of course, but I don't want to restart most of the segments too often, especially the long ones or the ones where there is a Boss fight but you have to replay several minutes each time to get to the Boss.

Welp... can't say I expected to see this in my subscription box when I logged in today... You're actually trying to improve on Garland's near-perfect run? Well, glhf etc. This might be a fun race to watch if you can catch up with Garland. =)

@owrbzero My goal isn't really to beat Garland, but of course having his times helps me determine how good I'm doing :P
And progress will be slow, don't have that much free time and I'm also working on the single segment run.
