Thanks for the positive comments. It was a lot of work, but EffectsLab helped make it smooth (it divides each interlaced frame into 2 separate frames in the workspace, and I believe that helps add to the smoothness b/c of having 60 rotoscoped frames per second instead of 30).

my lightsaber video is much shorter because i was to lazy do to the work and your blades are so much cooler.

Is your online? I'd love to see it.
It's definitely a lot of work to do all of the rotoscoping, but it really is worth the effort. Getting the blades to look right really has more to do with getting the core right and layering the light effect, which isn't really much extra work, but it does take some research to get the best settings. I used the double layer ILM presets that are built into EffectsLab for these.

It was done using rotoscoping with EffectsLab Pro from FXhome. Basically, after the video footage is shot with the prop sabers (which were actually wrapping paper rolls and a broom handle in this video), each frame of video has to be edited by hand. A mask is drawn onto the sabers in each frame, and then that mask is altered to look like a glowing light.
