Ebay(varies), Science stores(expensive), feed stores(Low Quality for smoke bombs)... the list list is fairly large.
There are many pyrotechnic enthusiasts that purchase PALLETS(!) worth of materials and components, direct from manufacturers, used in the construction of the craft. What they cannot distribute amongst their friends, they end up selling on Ebay or Craigslist. Those are your best bet for Inexpensive, high quality materiel (<pun intended.) ^_^

60g potassium nitrate
40g sugar
1 spoon of baking soda
put the nitrate and the sugar in a low heat and stir until you have a past like peanut butter, then turn off the fire and put the baking soda, the past will grow up, then put the past in a soda recipient, and leave for 1 hour...then, fires and see the smoke
