This weeks "Ride-Along" video discusses a mysterious reoccurring problem on a 2013 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Unexplained weekly paint continuation is examined with the Dinolite Microscope is hopes of understanding what is causing this excessive build-up. See the difference in the paint from clear bra vs non clear bra, on a new Porsche under a microscope. I also introduce the nano-skin "clay" pad used with a DA polisher. Please leave a comment if you have any ideas why this excessive contamination might be occurring on a weekly basis.

Thanks everyone! -L

FYI, you can use Quicktime to record what's on your screen. Just launch QT, File, New Screen Recording and you're good to go. Keep these coming, I enjoying watching your videos.

I have a question, the company is AMMONY or you and your franchisee?

I've had terrible iron contamination before and the culprit was my brakes, brake dust being composed 90% of rotor material. The only part of the car not contaminated was the hood and roof. But all over the doors, the quarter panels and the worst was the back of the car.

The rotor wear was obvious, you could tell that they were getting scraped down fast by an aggressive brake pad. After ditching those super aggressive brake pads, the contamination stopped.

I second this. If the roads are salted where he drives this is most likely the cause. Here in Norway, where they use salt on the roads all through the winter season, this is excactly the type of contamination you'll see trough the winter and in spring (and even worse than that of the Cayenne). Hope this helps :)

Yep. Especially hatchbacks and wagons get this build up in the rear beacause of how the wind flows on cars with a "straight" back end.

Doesn't using Clay bars that much, do damage to the clear coats on the car. Just asking

New York uses a ton of road salt... keeping a car clean in the winter is a tough battle. I'm sure he is familiar with what road salt looks like on a car though as he is based in NY and they have been using salt on roads for decades. Also salt tends to wash/rinse right off not leaving contamination that needs clay to remove.

You're right though it does look a lot like road salt!

My opinion is if you have bonded contamination on wheels, as well as at the door, then the contamination is coming from the brakes, in the latter case, it may be salt. I take this opportunity to commend your work.

Those NANO SKIN pads appear pretty awesome. I will definitely be buying a set of those. Question though. Approximately how long do the pads last? 1 car? 2 cars? 15 cars? I checked them out on line and they are a bit pricey but would be well worth it depending on how long the pads last. Also, did you figure out what was causing the overspray on this Porsche?

It's hot brake dust that's being slung up on the side of the car. I had a Toyota Celica that did the same thing. It's a Porsche, tell them to take more time to slow down in the corners. That will solve the problem.

Same thoughts here, i live in Iceland and we use salt all the time in the winter. The cars here will get white. If the brakes are the problem usually the wheels will get very dark or you will se it in the wheel / brake pad /just around there. Brake dust will not be able to fly up to the rear part of the car. Also look at the front bumper, it has got a bit as well, this is very typical for these road conditions and aerodynamics.
