Book TV: Tim Wise "Between Barack and a Hard Place"

Tim Wise argues that the election of Barack Obama says very little about a reduction of racism in America. He says it reinforces the old negative views about the larger black community while carving out exceptions for blacks like Obama. His election may therefore complicate progress against racism. The event was taped in Memphis at the White Privilege Conference, an annual gathering for critical discussions about diversity, racism and combatting oppression. Sponsors of the WPC in 2009 included the National Civil Rights Museum, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Rhodes College and Stylus Publishing.

Columbus, the leader of one of the largest genocides in history, is STILL being praised as a hero and has a day dedicated to his existence. Columbus is still being paraded in front of Natives whose ancestors died at his hands. Jesus is still represented as a very white man in churches and the media, as is Moses and everyone else, which is an inaccurate depiction.

When white settlers invaded parts of the world and used black people as slaves. Is that not evil? Oh and don't forget the continuous systemic and institutional racism that people of color are facing on a daily basis. White people have been the oppressors - its history.

The problem is that if say black privilege existed(and I can prove it much better than you can prove white privilege) then you would be denying black privilege by claiming white privilege exists.

People even go as far as to claim black people can't be racists and white people are racists for calling black people racists, which actually is evidence of BLACK privilege and a black supremacist system manifested in the western world

No, there isn't SOOOO much privilege for being a white male.

If people like you or Tim Wise would have the courage to actually debate the existence of white privilege with someone like myself you would quickly find out that your position is impossible to defend, but until then the status quo is that white privilege exists while EVERYTHING to the contrary is happening everyday.
