Das ist meine Projektarbeit zum Abschluss der Ausbildung als AIK (Assistent für Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik). Es war ein Zeitraum von einem halben Jahr vorgegeben und es konnten sowohl eigene als auch vorgegebene Ideen verwirklicht werden. Meine Idee war es, nach einiger Recherche, einen "LED Würfel" zu bauen.
Ein LED Würfel ist eine dreidimensionale LED Matrix, in diesem Fall mit 7 LEDs in einer Reihe, 7 in einer Spalte und 7 LEDs in der Tiefe. Die LEDs werden von einem Gitter aus Silberdraht gehalten, sodass jede LED von jeder Seite her sichtbar ist. Zusammen sind es 343 superhelle, diffuse, blaue LEDs.
Die LEDs werden von einem "AVR ATMega32" Mikrocontroller gesteuert, der mit Schieberegistern an seinen Ausgängen erweitert wurde. Zudem wurde Zeitmultiplexing eingesetzt, um Bauteile und Leitungen zu sparen. Der LED Würfel wird 100mal pro Sekunde aktualisiert, sodass ein flackerfreies Bild erscheint.
So können damit die verschiedensten Bilder und Animationen räumlich dargestellt werden.
Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, das es mir sehr viel Spaß gemacht hat dieses Projekt zu planen, es umzusetzen und es anschließend funktionieren zu sehen, auch wenn es viele hundert Stunden Arbeit waren.

For my education as an AIK, i had to do a project for my graduation. A few projects were given, but i also could realize my own ideas. The time limit for the project was set to half a year.
I searched on the internet to collect information. I don't remember exactly when it was, but suddenly i had the idea to build a "LED Cube".
A LED Cube is a three-dimensional LED matrix, in this case with seven LEDs in a row, seven in a column and 7 LEDs in depth. The LEDs are held in place with a grid of silver wire, so that every LED is visible from every side. Altogether there are 343 diffuse superbright blue colored LEDs.
The LEDs are controlled by a microcontroller (AVR ATMega32) with attached shift registers to expand its I/O Ports. Also time multiplexing is used, due to the massive amount of LEDs. The LED Cube is refreshed 100 times per second, so that a flicker free image appears.
Various animations or pictures can be displayed by pressing the two buttons attached to the front of the LED Cube casing. The case is completely made out of wood and was painted black for optical reasons.
The LED Cube has got an integrated power supply, so it can be directly plugged into the wall (230V AC). The power consumption is about 20W.
The firmware of the microcontroller is written entirely in C and provides simple functions to write own animations.
New graphics can be inserted by connecting the LED Cube via serial cable to a PC to flash the updated firmware into the microcontroller.
It was several hundred hours of work to build this project and I can say that I gained much experience. There were many highs and lows, but I can proudly say that it worked out in the end and it also was a lot of fun.
