My dad was also served on the Araner during WWII I will also scan the pictures and put them online. Any idea if the ship still exists? THere is a little documentary of the Araner on the John Waynes DVD the "The Long Voyage Home" Its called "#

i worked on the Araner in about 1977 through 1979 in hawaii at windjammer cruses inc out of kewalo basin honolulu
she was a sturdy boat and sailed well, but i am sure she was much buchered from her glorie days i would love to see pictures of her interior... i heard she was taken to guam after seh left hawaii dose any one know where she went to and what became of her?

During World War II, the U.S. Navy commissioned film director John Ford's sailing ship, the Araner, and used it as a spotter ship to patrol the coast of Southern California and Northern Baja.
These photos were taken by George V. Black Jr., 1942-1944.
