Minecraft: Water + Cacti Trap Tutorial

@ItsDyerNotDryer On the contrary, larger traps generally catch more mobs. The trick is to not make the entire area of the trap with water, but use canals with "islands" where mobs can spawn. I've built trap systems dozens of blocks wide (largest being 160x160 - not much point in bigger IMHO) and they work great. This particular trap won't catch anything because it's too high, but it was only built to show how its made, not to be functional.

@KingR3aper An update shortly after this video was made caused items to be damaged and destroyed by cacti. Yes, the efficiency of this trap is really poor thanks to that... only drowning traps will not destroy items.

For those not knowing the art of traps; you should combine several methods for optimal item looting.

For exemple a spawn chamber + lava trap/ cacti trap

Step 1) Build trap. Step 2) Wait for mobs to fall into trap. Step 3) Collect goodies.

Pretty simple. The idea is that built properly a trap such as this can harvest mobs spawning over a large area, as long as you stay nearby for them to spawn. This is showing how to use cacti instead of water of lava as a killing mechanism. The rate at which you can collect drops is quite impressive; look for other vids with lava-based traps that collect hundreds of items per minute.
