This video of Hurricane Irene was shot from Nags Head to Duck on the North Carolina Outer Banks August 26-28, 2011 where I was able to capture wind gusts up to 85 mph along with sustained winds as high as 65-70 mph. Take note of the increasing windspeeds throughout the video until the height of the storm's passage is caught in Duck, NC toward the end of the video. I was positioned on the right side of the hurricane with winds generally out of the south for most of the day on August 27th with a shift to the west as we penetrated the southern eyewall. The end of the video features about a minute of aftermath footage.

Check my YouTube Channel for additional Irene aftermath footage of an EF1 and EF2 tornado that had winds up to 130 mph, which completely destroyed several homes.

  • That looked very very similar to vmax's video. He had the same shots!

  • @JerseyShore117 lol. That's because we chased together. Of course we edited our footage slightly different, but its close... almost down to the egg/lightbulb at the end!

  • @pontiac51 Haha exactly what I said! Still great footage. What do winds of 70-80 mph feel like?

  • @JerseyShore117 If you stick your hand out the window of a car driving on an expressway you can get an idea of how it feels.

  • Great video Rob! It was great to chase with you guys. I really like the transition between scenes, very smooth. See ya in the next hurricane!

  • @huracanado1 lol thanks... windows movie maker is getting better! see you on the next chase!

  • @pontiac51 Yeah! I always do that but I'm never sure if that's right.

  • @vmax135 It's good I was able to get a couple of different shots from what you had. I can't wait to see what you have that may be different from mine!

  • Awesome video, Rob!!! Nice tight shots and edit. You definitely got a few scenes that I missed. I didn't realize until watching this now that a bunch of the vinyl siding that peeled off the hotel must have come from the gable directly above the room. I also love the clip of Greg struggling through the wind in the parking lot... lol.
