People take too much for granted and are not 'awed' enough by what should 'awe' them. I recently did some layman investigation into proteins and their functions and relations to each other and I was just amazed...these tiny things, uncounted numbers of them, running around in your body, inside your cells and outside your cells, doing everything to keep you alive at this very moment.

No, they are not. At least not the one will7162 refers to, the round one that passes in between two sunspots. It is actually a transit of one of the inner planets (my guess: Venus), which means it is not a shadow, indeed, but an "eclipse". Venus gets in the way between the Sun and us, so we don't see the Sun at 6700 degrees, but the much colder surface of Venus, so it is much darker.

And if you don't know that, you should keep yourself from calling anyone numb nuts.
