Writing isn't just for English teachers anymore. The 2009 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Invitational Summer Writing Institute included many teachers from different backgrounds sharing techniques to help engage students in writing and comprehension. The institute ran from June 22 until July 23, 2009.
Participants developed teacher inquiries and presented on a range of topics including:
-using poetry to engage students
-teaching writing through literature
-building reading and writing comprehension
-using the blues to move students
The UWM Writing Institute just completed its second year and received twice as many applicants as they could accept. For more information on the UWM writing project, please visit: http://www.writingproject.uwm.edu
