Pierce Gardner, MD, helped start the International Clinical Research Training Program at the National Institutes of Health's Fogarty International Center where he is now an adviser to Fogarty Scholars who complete a year-long fellowship doing global health research overseas. Here, Gardner and Gerry Bloomfield and Brady Beecham, two Fogarty Scholars, talk about why global health research is important.
Gardner is also a global health research ambassador for The Paul G. Rogers Society, named for the former Congressman (1921-2008), a renowned advocate for health, serves the public's interest by engaging America's leading global health researchers as scientist-advocates. Those selected as Society Ambassadors are committed to increasing the national support for and investment in U.S. global health research.
