These seabirds have excellent binocular vision. They have permanently closed nostrils made for diving. They hunt for fish by diving into the ocean, sometimes from a great height, in pursuit of their prey. They hunt singly, in pairs, or in flocks as in this video. When the lead bird sees a shoal of fish in the water, they will signal to the rest of the group and they will all dive together. The fish is usually eaten whilst still underwater. The blue-footed booby shapes its body like an arrow when entering the water and can reach depths of up to 25 metres. Unfortunately these birds can occassionally misjudge the depth of the water, and an entire group can dive to their deaths.
