Pet Monkey diapering MUST start at a matter of weeks of age. Wait until they are a few months old and good luck!
Sure, your monkey is going to complain about it, maybe even scream to see if that will work in to it's advantage, but you must not give in! If you give in, your monkey will remember and work YOU every time. YOU must stay the alpha.
What's my secret? I have their favorite blankey (or a piece of it if it's starting to fall apart) near, and I offer a tiny piece of an ultra-favorite treat --- Gerber Graduates Fruit Juice Treats, and talk calmly to them, tell them how good they are being (even if they are being a little naughty). Praise and a calm voice will get you, the owner, one heck of a lot farther than a stressed voice spewing words of how naughty the monkey is being.
Now, this video, is about cloth diapers. I have tried every, or at least near every, cloth diaper available on the internet and have come to the conclusion they are gravely flawed in their design. Not only does the urine soak through the diaper quickly, but the leg opening design is erroneous for free movement of long-jumping highly active small monkeys like my Tamarins, especially the infant Tamarins (and Marmosets). This leg opening flaw causes not only the primate discomfort but the owner too when trying to accommodate their beloved pet in the best possible, least stressful, manner. Hence, many new monkey owners put off diapering until the monkey is a couple of months old, and then.... well.... it's very difficult to get the monkey to allow diapering at all.
So, I started sewing my own diapers. I changed everything about the design! The leg opening, the elastic and elastic placement and the way the diaper closes, also modified is how the diaper allows room for the pooh so it doesn't get squished out the tail hole when the Tamarin does it's natural behavior of trying to wipe it's bumm on you or the furniture. I also modified how the flannel that soaks up the urine is stacked "inside" the diaper outter and inner linings. The urine will still soak through if the diaper is left on too long, and as always, diaper rash is a given side-effect if the diapers are not changed frequently throughout the day.
As for the harness vest, you have probably noticed that my monkeys don't wear "clothes." I enjoy cuddling with mine too much to cover up their fur with fabric, among other reasons. I do use a harness-vest when we have to go to the Vet's. Just like the diaper, you will need to condition your small monkey to wearing a harness from a very young age or you will have a fight on your hands. I sew a jewelry making "O" ring on the back of the harness-vest to snap a jewelry-making closure snap attached to a ball chain tether (ball chain and it's hardware is available at Ace Hardware). One of my girls simply will not wear a vest, so I modified the design without the neck piece and widened the chest / waist strap to accommodate a larger piece of velro and voila, she is a happy girl.
Love it! And I may have even more reason to
watch because I may become a monkey mom soon myself! So don't stop now! You are one of the very few owners that provides us with an inside view of liveing with a tiny primate, and solid advice based on real experience. I will be counting on folks like you. I hope anyway! This will be a life time dream realized if everything works out!
Thanks again for shareing!

Oh WOW! when you do, let me know, there are a couple really cool PRIVATE "Monkey Mom" internet groups that are great to belong to. If I can be of any help at all just ASK!!!!
Look for a primate vet BEFORE you get your monkey!!!! I cannot stress this point strongly enough. You will need a "Well Pet Exam" within the first 48 hours of bringing baby home.
There are a number of breeders out there, I know two great breeders of small monkeys if you need a reference.

I didn't get the video lined up very good to capture dressing the neck closure. It's hard to self-video!!! (*LOL*). At least you get the idea how much physical manipulation and patience on the monkey's part is involved and why acclimating them at a VERY young age is important.
I started serious efforts on diapering Tami at 10 weeks of age, and started T'Myrrah at 3 weeks. T'Myrrah, "verbally complains" very little.; Tami, ENTHUSIASTICALLY verbally "complains"
