This is a video meant to give some idea of the scope of stories that I write and tell. It's also meant to be a bit of fun for children and teachers alike. I am often asked what exactly it is that I do and it's quite hard to show people without intruding into the classroom. This video is meant to give an idea of some of the subjects I cover. I do not dress up for stories and I use only the most minimal of 'props' so this was interesting for me to come up with costumes and ideas from around our house and in the local area. The whole of the idea for this came from my lovely wife Anne who suggested that I should do a 'compilation' of stories. I do have a wide range of stories from around the world and I have such pleasure in telling and making up stories with children. It is often those children who have never commited a single idea to paper who get a lot from my sessions in schools. Having been a teacher I feel that I understand what is needed from the children and staff alike.

  • Another thing is that it makes it easier to travel around the country and just have yourself as the storyteller without any extra things to carry. It makes it easier to move from class to class and I don't have to get 'changed'. I suppose it's a kind of laziness on my part but I can turn up and be ready in minutes. Reading stories from books is just as good and assuming and dressing as a character is great, it's just not something that I do very often.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

  • You're right, a good storyteller doesn't need many props. A well told story will engage the child in such a way, that their own imagination provides all the props they need.

    Nice work!!
