Have fond memories of Leyland buses in London, especially the National, Atlantean and Olympian. Always remember the National to be quite a rattly vibrating bus, or perhaps it was just because it was knackered. I used to enjoy going on the 108 through Blackwall Tunnel to Ilford

The National IIs are actually very handsome too ,when painted up properly.We didn't get those in Australia ,only the long podded and short podded Nationals on the 1970s but I've seen plenty of pictures.

They look very interesting without the pod.Prefer with but don't mind it missing.

New Enviro 300 buses at 12 months rattle like mad. I don't think they'll last 25 years! Ten maybe at a push. Modern crap.

Most definitely these buses still look cool even today.Just a pity they weren't engineered in Germany circa 70s with quality materials instead of having that heap of shite of a Leyland engine:Stone age powerplant more at home at a fairground polluting the common.

These buses were iconic and still look modern today. Love the lights and large windscreen in particular Excellent video showing some fine examples

If you were looking to buy a leyland national, the name to look for is Mike Nash, who usually has several for sale!

Those Leyland Nationals just DO NOT look dated at all. They are actually rather beautiful, especially when finished in the Crosville green and white scheme.

I'd love to own one! I have classic cars - I'd like to have a Leyland National too.

I didn't know you had a "Liking" of buses Drewerz.......maybe one with a V8 Cat or a Cummins...........these old Leylands sound like a old Leyland Bison truck, or an AEC from many moons ago.I remember going to school in the 70's and 80's on these "Beasts".....Hornsbys run many old Leyland relics fit for the junk yard at the time........maybe a few were saved by collectors.Also my first job in 1984 was as a Truck fitter and I helped to strip down a 6 cyl Leyland motor out a "Big" JCB shovel....

something ive noticed in newcastle where they bought a load of new mercedes buses is how quickly they are falling to pieces, in less than a year there have been a few breakdowns, trim and fittings breaking in the buses, even daft little things like the pattern on the florr wearing off on an 18month old bus!! you'd never have had that on a good old british made bus!

I completely agree with ayrwayz, modern buses are plastic piles of Shit with no soul or character what so ever, the old National 1&2 and the old Olympian, best buses ever to grace the road! I really miss seeing & hearing them especially, what a sound!
