ASCAP AND BMI are nothing but bullies who ruin local music and harass small businesses.
-
@spark505 it ensures you get any royalties from the songs whether you or another artist performs it.as long as you register each song properly
-
ASCAP BMI and SOCAN etc. helps you claim royalties for works that you register with them. In Canada it's SOCAN but signing up with them automatically gets you associated with ASCAP or BMI, your choice. It's worth the time it takes to protect your stuff.

@FCO0710 The Library of Congress does not copyright music. If an artist wanted their music copyrighted they go through the U.S. Copyright Office. If the type of music submitted requires it (i.e., published music), the claimant has to mail the Library of Congress a physical copy of their music either in phonorecord or sheet music. But the Library of Congress does NOT copyright music.

@MainScoopTV yea i think so, atleast thats what im gonna do lol

is this just for songwriters that wrote songs for other artist...or can a artist that write his own songs sign up too?
-
Hay so to be clear..you would copyright the song first and then apply for one of these companies.
you dont copywright a song via ASCAP, you do it via the library of congress. Though the rest of this info in this video is correct
