At Luigi's Casa Della Tires, Guido tries to remove a hubcap from a customer's tire and ends up flinging it out the window. It flies past Mater and Lightning McQueen, who are driving along Main Street. Mater immediately tells Lightning that it was a UFO and he knew because he'd seen one. Lightning says, "What?!", and Mater begins his story about this "Unidentified Flying Mater". On a crystal clear night (except for several storm clouds building up behind him), Mater is driving towards a level crossing when the lights start flashing. Mater is puzzled because he can't see any trains coming, but when he looks to his left, he sees a glowing, blue, buck-toothed UFO staring at him. He jumps back in fright and starts quivering when the UFO smiles at him. Mater then introduces himself and the UFO introduces himself as Mator. Mater then takes him to his "liters": a pile of oil cans. Whilst drinking, Mater unintentionally teaches Mator to say "dad-gum" when Mator drinks a large can of oil in one sip and belches loudly. Mater later teaches him to tip tractors and drive backwards. Mator also teaches Mater how to fly, which startles Fillmore. As they start flying around Willy's Butte, spotlights surround them and Mator is captured. Mater follows them and realizes that his new friend has been captured by the military forces. He then sneaks onto base using his flying technique, quick movements, and a disguise to free Mator. Relampago Mcqueen doesn't believe Mater, asking him, "Do you really expect me to believe that?" Mater replies, "Well, you should. You was there, too." As the military forces chase Mater and Mator, Lightning joins them. Suddenly, a huge UFO (presumably Mator's parent) arrives and takes the trio away. She then drops off Mater and Lightning back home before leaving.

Cars Toon Mater's Tall Tales is an American animated shorts television series by Disney and Pixar featuring the characters Mater and Lightning McQueen from the film Cars. The series first broadcast was on Toon Disney, Disney Channel and ABC Family. The "Cars Toon Mater's tall tales" series was released on DVD and Blu-ray featuring 2 brand new episodes. So far have been released 9 episodes. The last episode #10 is called Air Mater and the first of season 3, and was released on Blu-ray and DVD with Cars 2.

All of the Cars Toons follow the same tall tale formula: Mater tells a story of something he has done in the past. The action shifts to his story. At some point in certain stories, Mater finds himself in an inescapable predicament. When McQueen questions Mater over whether the events in the story actually occurred (or, in some episodes, asks him what he did next), Mater responds, "Don't you remember? You was there too!" (in some episodes, he says something different, but similar to it), and continues the story including McQueen's sudden (and usually unwilling) participation. The cartoons end with Mater leaving the scene, often followed by characters or references to the story that was being told, suggesting the story might be real. Each story includes Mater, Lightning McQueen, Mia and Tia (the two red cars that adore Lightning McQueen, although in this case they are portrayed as adoring Martin), and various pit crew forklifts.
