In 1968, The Yardbirds were in a sorry state of disarray after their greatness
of two years previously, and in July they finally threw in the towel.

Kieth Relf and Jim McCarty formed the folk duo "Together", and then "Renaissance".
Chris Dreja took up Photography full time; and Jimmy Page, who was left with the
group's name, formed "The New Yardbirds", who soon turned into "Led Zeppelin".

  • RCM,

Thanks for uploading this, but I have some bad news about this recording. I have been a Zeppelin collector since 1998 and this is indeed Led Zeppelin, not the New Yardbirds. I just D'L "London Blues" and it is a "compilation of previously recorded shows. The first two tracks, ICQY & I Gotta Move (sans guitar) were recorded in Stockholm 3.14.69. The latter tracks from the "Marquee" are the BBC recordings of June '69. There is gong at the beginning of D & C (introduced in April '6

  • @JusCuz410 Very cool info. Thanks for the correction. So why do we have mis-labeled indexes? Maybe 'cause the people are mis-laid who write them. ;^ )

  • Is this really from 1968, and not from 1969? As far as I knew the only existing live recording of Zep from 1968 was from Spokane, Washington.

  • @Ozzybeans This came to me over 25 years ago on a Real to Real that I transfered over to cassette tape. I cleaned it up, just a little & turned it into an Mp3. It was just a filler at the end of a Grateful Dead show w/ a couple other fillers. The Outside box cover had it written with this info being 1968.

It's's posible that of Live Led Zep, you are right, but being this was listed as The New Yardbirds only on the real to real box, not Led Zep, this could be from London 1968 as listed.

  • This is for the self-acclaimed experts that claimed that Zep were never originally the Yardbirds and only Page was ever a Yardbird. As you can clearly see and hear now, this is the full Zep band playing a song off their 1st album under the name the New Yardbirds(you irritating idiots who argued and argued with me about and would not give up-you know who you are).

  • @Ozzybeans They called themselves the New Yardbirds on their first mini tour of Scandinavia and other parts of Europe before making the first album, and then touring the US as Led Zeppelin. Spokane is not the only recording from 68. I used to have an entire concert of the New Yardbirds in 68. I think only 3 or 4 songs were from the forthcoming album though and the rest were blues songs!

  • High gen version of the BBC radio recording.

  • I also agree on the 1968 date based on bonhams drums. Sounds like this was before starting playing his signature ludwig drum kit. Notice how his sound here is not as big and a little flat.

  • This has all the hallmarks of a very early performance. I buy the 1968 dating based on how it was performed in many 1969 recordings.

  • @Ozzybeans No, I've had a vinyl boot of a 68 show as "the new Yardbirds" for years.

  • RAIN LOVE TO ROBERT PLANT , ALWAYS ANNETTE ~-~-~xo~--~ox~--~o

  • SAW THIS LIVING LEGEND MANY TIMES...ROBERT PLANT SO EXQUISITE...EXCELLENCE HE IS...GREATESTSH
