Vox AC4 vs AC30. Comparison. Great audio!

Some people asked if the AC4 can stand up to the big brother AC30. So i made a few clips. I'm never touching anything but the controls on the guitar for the various tones. Just moving the mic to the same placement at each amp.

AC4 setup: 4w cranked with tone at about 2 o'clock. Stock Celestion speaker.

AC30 setup: Cranked, tone cut at about 2-3 o'clock. Treble at 2 and bass at 10 o'clock. Celestion Blue of course.

Guitar 1: Fender American Standard Stratocaster with CS 69 pickups.

Guitar 2: Gibson Les Paul with Seymour Duncan Antiquities.

Recording setup: Shure SM57 into a E-mu 0404. Software is Audacity.

Have you ever tried to run your AC30 at half power by removing tubes as I read about, can't remember where...

@constructivereconcil thats not really a good idea with a cathode biased amp. It is however possible on a Super Lead Marshall for example.

you don't have the tone far enough up on the ac4...

@StratoCatser It actually makes close to zero difference when its cranked anyway. I've tried it in a lot of positions and i like it best overall at about 2 o'clock.

What would be interesting was to test the head version of the VOX AC4, and match the cab and speakers in the AC30. Then we´d see how the amp compares. Of corse the 10" in the AC4 falls a bit short.

it sounds like you're trying to make the AC4 sound like shite on purpose. An Ac4 doesn't sound that bad come on!

@MattTuffMusic I don't remember where I read that, maybe it was a different amp. I'd like an AC10, or an AC4 with a pentode for V1.
