dunlap 2008 graduation speech

Here's the script:
High school has been a lot like a movie. In the beginning you don't know what to expect, and before you know it, you're right where we are right now: the credits. How did the time go by so fast?
It's been a fantastic four years that we have borne the identity of high schoolers. Whether school was about kicking and screaming on the soccer field, football under Friday night lights, dodgeball in gym, or singing in a high school musical, today has for years been school's final destination. Since little rascals in middle school, we've all felt like we were up a fast and furious river without a paddle sometimes, but now it seems like high school has gone by in 60 seconds. After all those rocky days, the super good and the super bad, we now face both the prestige of graduating and the inconvenient truth of having to grow up. It takes a brave heart and a beautiful mind to follow the pursuit of happiness through the good, the bad, and the ugly.
It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad world, but wherever you end up in the rat race: as an anchorman, working in an Italian job or bank job, or just taking up office space, I wish you the best of luck on the glory road. Homeward bound or on a road trip, I hope you follow the Good Shepard. It's a wonderful life, so don't waste it.

As we 300 each become the graduate we have aspired to be, we should celebrate our Independence day from this old school. The day after tomorrow is ours; no one amongst us can turn their back to the future. We are the future, and truly a national treasure.
