The Pacific Northwest thunderstorm season for 2009 looks to be the most active I have seen in many years. Almost every time there is a passage that allows monsoon moisture combined with day time heating and humidity, we get these erupting thunderstorms. We had just gotten through possibly one of the biggest derecho events on June 4, and the storms won't go away. I love thunderstorms anyhow and this is fun! Perfect example of the Midwest if you ask me.

Anyways, a severe thunderstorm developed in Clackamas County, with possible 1" hail and heavy rainfall. At 10:30 AM we were warned for developing thunderstorms by about 2 pm, and they were right.

Another warning was issued at 5:24 pm for extreme southeastern Multnomah County and extreme northeastern Clackamas County. 1" hail and 60 mph winds were possible with that storm.

  • @101201jeff

    wow i know :)

  • I'm not from America and we don't have these here. What I don't understand is how it can come up as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning on screen, before the 3 audio data bursts have played, as I thought the type of warning was encoded in these? Or is the data/tone broadcast with a delay? In which case why broadcast the sounds that aren't part of the message?

  • Not sure what you're asking, are you wondering about the red scroll on the bottom of the weather channel? If so, thats displayed for customers who don't have cable on their television. In my case, I have cable, and EAS messeges are issued shortly after the warning itself. EAS is just another way of displaying the warning.

  • And also, not every county in the United States have EAS messages that send warnings on TV's. It depends on location, so I guess that is what the red scroll is for.

  • Since you live in my state, were you around to see or hear if there was an EAS message distributed on Saturday, October 17th at some time around 10:00AM?

  • Oh btw, did you see my new videos?

  • @supercell1995 I think what he meant is that the EAS on screen knew that it was a severe thunderstorm before the 3 data bursts said it was. The three buzzes at the beginning contain what type of warning it is and usually devices know what the warning is from those. But Comcast's EAS knew what it was before those bursts.

  • @polygonvgc it depends how severe

  • @supercell1995 The EAS sometimes creeps me out.

  • sometimes I only get the 2 tone on my comcast cable

  • I might sentence mix this video. I might make the EAS say "Get ready to die"

  • I heard beeping last night..... RWT

  • LMAO! 0:15, I see you in the TV Hahaha

  • I live in Spokane Washington, we don't really get these too much.

  • i had that yesterday

  • I have DirecTV HD and they bundle EAS alerts as part of DirecTV Active ... It would be kinda cool if we had a feed like that because I have my DirecTV box running into my computer so I can record that kind of stuff. With this setup, I have to monitor the radio or go to weather.gov, unfortunately

  • really cool.

  • @mackywacky00 ohh i was born June 9th, 1996

  • @Yoshimitsu483 June 9th, 2000 is when I was born!

  • @mackywacky00 you have to be kiddin right?

  • @yoshimitsu483 I was born June 9th, too!

  • Buizel22 (morg) thinks EAS is bad stuff.

    I think it is awesome.

  • Well I have so many other channels on my Comcast, but I only use one. My parents use the other channels. Since I'm into weather and all...

  • No there wasn't, the storm wasn't severe, although I think a special weather statement was issued for it. Same for a thunderstorm south of Tacoma, WA around the same time.

Just to let you know, all thats on my television is weatherscan, so when there are warnings, I know! LOL :)
