I have never used rice paper, but I saw someone pour ink from the main jar to 3 different jars (smaller than the main jar), and watered the 3 jars down little by little to create light medium and dark ink. Doing that will help you from having to use too much water, besides practice.

Très beaux gestes!

Question: how do you prevent the paper from bulging because of the moisture of the ink? Do you buy special paper?
If I use regular rice paper I have serious problems with the bulging

HI, ink is called Indian ink or Chinese ink. We call it 'sumi' in Japanese :) It is made from pain tree ash.

I saw the irises at Meiji Jingu Gyoen and took many photographs. There are more than 150 varieties of iris there! It's wonderful to learn how to paint them by watching your video.
