CNA BlogTV's 'What Would You Do?' - Hidden Camera at TAB Orchard, Singapore
A social experiment that pits the actors' actions against our audience's reaction when boundaries overstepped are blatantly showcased. Night 1 at TAB saw a waitress unhappily at the receiving end of an inebriated customer's advances. Night 2 at TAB saw a customer harassing a stranger he just chanced upon at the adjacent table. Both nights saw more patrons choosing not to react visibly than those choosing to speak to our actress/TAB staff (which 3 did). None proactively confronted the harasser; the table of men that did speak to him was finally compelled to react when the action was forcibly brought into their space.
Produced by a team from Channel NewsAsia led by Maria Ronald, with the acting assistance (two nights of fake harassment, feigned helplessness and real cocktails) of Shao Zhongren and Tan Min Yi. Special thanks to TAB, for the delicious food & beverages and for the extremely generous use of their venue.
[PS: while this may seem borderline comedic from the start to the very last second (from my end at least; watch out for stuff like the Phone Beeping sounds when ZR has his showdown with the group of gentlemanly men - all of us were constantly messaging each other to plan where and how serious our next interaction would be), sexual harassment is obviously NOT funny. Hopefully the episode will caution those being harassed to stand up for themselves, because the typical Singaporean might not.]
