a full length version of my 4-29-11 trip to san bernard national wildlife refuge.

our first trip here started off with something i had never seen before, wood storks. then we saw crazy amounts of egrets and ibises and herons and bitterns and black necked stilts. we even got to see baby alligators feeding on minnows and even eating one another, all next to their mom, who let us get a rare look at her babies for a few hours. it was a sight i will never forget. after a while of seeing your typical wading birds and ducks we saw something amazing, something i love to see, the animal that got me into bird watching back in the summer of 2009 on a trip to lake tahoe- the bald eagle. they were so high up in the air that i had no idea i was even close to filming them, but i did. and it made the whole trip worth it. it is also worth noting the alligators here and how their attitudes toward people are totally different from brazos bend state park. here, the alligators are alot harder to get close to and are way more shy. while the alligators at brazos bend are far more used to people and don't really make any effort to stay hidden. all the alligators here were shy except for the one that had over 50 babies to constantly look after, which seems odd. these alligators really have a backwards mindset. we even saw an alligator eating PLANTS! i have never seen or heard of an alligator eating plants before! anyway, just seeing a pair of eagles made this place my favorite spot, and this was our first and only visit! hopefully during the winter we can come back again when the ducks and eagles meet.
