Em...I love Jas Newsted..but Rob Trujillo is WAY WAY better than him, there´s no discussion on that. Rob plays with the fingers and he has really nice flamenco and spanish guitar techniques. Jason is awesome, but Robert Trujillo is a fucking beast, check his solo of For Whom the Bell Tolls.
Anyway, ´tallica rules.

you might find Rob better as an individual bass player but i think Jason Newsted was a better fitting piece of the puzzle... Rob is good, don't get me wrong, but I don't think he's right for Metallica. Jason, on the other hand, was a way better match with Metallica. (obveously none of them even compares with Cliff Burton tho...)

I get you, no problem. Both Rob and Jas are awesome bass players, Rob has maybe more skill in individual bass like you said, Jas has better chorus voice. They are different, of course, but i love Metallica with Rob Trujillo right now as much as i love the ´tallica with Jas.
Cliff Burton was outter space....he was a beast, you can see it in every old stuff metallica album.

look at robs band, its not metal either, those side bands usually serve as different creative outlets
