Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, The Fly) as Adam Stein delivers one of the most powerful performances of his career in this compelling, unforgettably moving film. Tormented in a World War II concentration death camp by a high-ranking Nazi officer (Oscar nominee* Willem Dafoe, Spider-Man), Adam spends the next 15 years tucked away in a remote experimental insane asylum with fellow Holocaust victims. Clinging to the remains of his sanity, Adam uses his amazing magic and comic skills to entertain the residents and develops a relationship with an attractive nurse (Ayelet Zurer, Angels & Demons). But only when he reaches out to a mentally scarred young boy does he begin to confront his own pain and guilt and start to heal in this extraordinary testament to the fierce resilience of the human spirit. *Best Supporting Actor: Platoon, 1986; Shadow of the Vampire, 2000
I want to see this film but it has to be one of the worst trailers I've ever seen.

@MondoBeno
Actually it's based on Yoram Kaniuk's novel of the same name. Even though the plot lines sound similar (The Clown Who Cried and Adam Resurrected), I think you will find that the contexts, symbols and overall meanings make for very seperate works.

This was based on a Jerry Lewis film that was never released.
Jerry Lewis played a German circus clown who's forced to entertain kids before they're gassed.

Thank the gods, Goldblum finally in a serious drama! Now he can really let it all out. He's so amazing.

This movie was amazing and Goldblum gave the performance of his career. It's a shame this movie was only released in NY and LA for a paltry few weeks. Schrader never sells out, and he delivered big time here with a gutsy and uncompromising work of art. This movie would have won oscars back in the 70s. Loved the photography and supporting cast (Zurer's so hot and Dafoe was scary!!)
