That's lovely. Houdini seems to be the way forward. Been using Blender (hate it) and I've moved on to Maya. It's great. But Houdini really looks amazing. Cant afford though :(

Houdini is a very interesting and powerful program, not only you can achieve an effect/whatever in many different ways, you also make tools in the process, and thats a great thing for iterating, improve and enhance your work.
If you are not using it for commercial usage, you can get the Apprentice Free version from the website of SideFX or you can buy the Apprentice HD edition for u$d99 which lets you render in HD and watermark free.
I recommend anyone to try this software =)

Its a very big grid, with a displaced shader that also is reflective. I animated the offset and frequency of the noise. Then the sky is another grid perpendicular to the sea, the post its just a cylinder :P. Then the render was done in mantra using Micropolygon. Yeah, its Apprentice HD, it lets you render high res framse and also removes the watermark. Hope you find this useful!
