my school district had no middle school, which meant that once 6th grade was passed in the elementary school, we would go to the high school as 7th graders. during my senior year of cross country in fall sports, we had 3 new 7th graders on the team. the way our initation worked was first, the seniors would annoy the 7th graders to no end for a whole week, and they cannot do anything about it. finally, the 7th graders were dunked into a full garbage can for 30 seconds.

Initiation is just code for "We're a bunch of elitist douchebags who only let in people who do crazy or really stupid shit." There's no point in it. Same w/ hazing. It's just a way for the asshole upperclassmen and current members to have fun treating newbies like shit cuz they got nothing better to do. Their lives are so desperate and miserable they have to screw with others.

I'd kick someone's ass if they tried to "initiate" me into 9th grade. I mean WTF? Initiation for a fraternity is one thing, and it is voluntary to join, but you HAVE to go through high school, which includes freshman year, to get your diploma. Asswipes.
Did they threaten to kick your asses or something if you didn't go through with this "initiation" of cutting your hair?

When I tried to join the swimming team at uni they said the initiation night was just having a few drinks with the older team members. But it soon became clear that head shaving and other humiliations were in fact planned for the evening. I told them where to stick their fucking team, walked out and never went back.
Why do people put up with this crap - It's only a dumb sport after all - you don't have to do it.
