I just dropped Verizon Wireless for Sprint's unlimited data plan. I refuse to buy a $500 smartphone and then be told how much I can use it.

Question, does viewing a movie or TV show on the internet use the same amount of data as downloading them?
-
wasnt there a hack that allowed you to bypass the data plan and use the internet with it noticing your useing the data so it appears 0MB used?

@MoreMobile Gotcha. It surprises me to know that my 3+ year old PCI Card is just as fast as any of their other 3G modems, but I'll take an unlimited, slow connection over a limited fast one anyday.
Thank you again for all your help!

FYI - The new data plan is just $50 for 5GB and the overage is now $10 per extra GB of data...so it's a much better plan than before. Now, with the newer 4G modems that are 10X faster than 3G, it is a pretty good alternative to Cable for many that are not extreme power users.

I've had Verizon's Mobile Broadband for about 3 years now (PC5750 Card on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-29) and pay about $60 monthly. However, it's my sole source of Internet (both in the apartment and whenever I go anywhere else around Nashville, TN or, occasionally, elsewhere in the country). What's more, I regularly exceed the 5Gb usage cap. But I somehow have "unlimited mb allowance" as a feature in my plan. Can you shed some light on this and my future options for Internet usage?

@PaladinHero It sounds like you have a grandfathered unlimited plan, since long ago they were actually unlimited. As long as you keep this line, it will probably remain unlimited, but if you were to get any additional lines, they would have a 5GB cap. I doubt you could switch to a 4G device (when those come out) and get unlimited on that, but we won't know that for a while.

@MoreMobile So given my high rate of usage (which is already pushing 5Gb as we speak with another ten days before it resets), do you recommend I just stick with the PC Card, or would upgrading to a higher end modem within Verizon (and keeping the current number) allow me to retain my grandfathered in unlimited allowance?

@PaladinHero you could do an ESN swap (not an "upgrade") to a different 3G device, but not sure what the benefit would be since it won' t be any faster. The only benefit would be a USB form factor which is easier to use with more devices than a PC card. I have a few at a good price if you need one. 312-715-7550. Thx.
