@Jonorocks999 Saw him in the yard after his exertions in the Gold Cup. Has eaten every oat and is feeling rather pleased with himself. Matty had to stop riding him for a few vital strides when he got a bump from Denman, which cost him third place, otherwise connections thrilled to see him mix it with the big boys. Watch out for him next year, when he's the finished article

Carruthers is pretty laid back - actually positively idle at home. Matty was caught napping on the bottom bend when he should have gone on as the other four quickened. You're right it probably was not that bad but under normal circs would have cost him the race.
