I am happy to more deeply about the psycho sexual impulses of these men. It is generally my tendency to meet someone where they are. I did not hear any deeper psychoanalytic question in the previous comments... I've studied psychoanalysis for many years, and can freely talk about Freud, Jung, Klein, Winnicott or most any of the major players...

You certainly can.. But Schizophrenia requires a set of very specific symptoms. While Lake \had some of them he didn't have enough of them to warrant a full blown diagnosis of schizophrenia. There are other diagnoses that are probably more accurate for him. But I think you are picking up on his delusional though process... he was paranoid and delusional about his special role in the repopulation of the world after the Armageddon he imagined would happen...

Why do so many serial killers join the military early in life?

@redbamafan There could be several reasons. 1. They appreciate respect, and military enlistment guarantee a measure of respect. 2. They lack structure and think they can get it by having external structure. 3. There may be unconscious fears about losing control and killing. The unconscious fear creates a need for control; so the individual joins the military hoping to stay in control, believing the military can control him, or help him control himself.

@redbamafan FInally, there is also the awareness that one of the primary activities in the military is to kill. (Only when needed of course, but it is a trained and expected activity.) The enlistment in the military is a sanctioned place to kill.

Give me a break. Dr. Armstrong spouts neutered pop psychobabble. We are supposed to believe that these guys are motivated by anger and the wish to control people. This is the cheap, no-good pc psychology of Alfred Adler who apparently believed that humans have no genitals.  Isn't it strange how Armstrong never once mentions sexuality or sadism?
