I spent my early years around Boonville, MO and remember all the old square dances at the Odd Fellows and K of P halls back in the early fifties. That's where I first started playing guitar. Usually it was one fiddler, piano, guitar, bull fiddle, and sometimes a dobro. If they wanted a big band a drummer would be there. Never saw a five string banjo, but a few tenor players would show up sometimes. Quite a lot of good memories there.

But I haven't completely figured this one out in double D which I still think would be best for fiddlin,fraillin, clawhammer, or whatever

Thanks for your help!!! I've figured I can tune to standard open G, put a capo on the second fret and play it as if I were playing in C....Or I can just tune to A.

Vivian, I moved to WA from OK and joined the Wa Old Time Fiddlers and hope to meet you in person one of these days. Maybe jam together sometime.
