In the March 30 issue of Science Express, IBM scientists explained their new method for exploring magnetism at the atomic scale. They use a scanning tunneling microscope to position individual atoms into structures designed for specific experiments. Here you see STM images as a chain of 10 manganese atoms is assembled atop an insulating copper-nitride (CuN) surface. The field of view is a 28-nanometers square. More details can be found on the IBM Research website: http://domino.research.ibm.com/comm/pr.nsf/pages/news.20060330_nanotech.html

  • Is it taken with an scanning electron mycroscope?

  • IBM has been the first for a lot of things, the xenon atom arrangement was one of my favorites : )

  • look...IBM is just a company, it make micro-processor chips e.g Intel-IBM collaboration. If Hitler went to tesco and said. can i have a dozen of eggs please..(in german offcourse :)) And tesco sells him some eggs, then it is unjust saying...ooh TESCO fed Hitler!! they are helping him to destroy us all. no. it is not right is it? for TESCO who ever asked for eggs, will get some. (Here tesco is only an example).

  • only u understand it

  • nice! IBM's the best company in the UNIVERSE!
