Table etiquette is an important part of dining that a lot of people are forgetting and it's very important in Japan. Because a lot of foreigners, as you put it, 'Eat it however the hell you want', the restaurant owners get offended and hence, there are a lot of ' No foreigners allowed' signs all over Japan. Sorry, but this wasn't meant to scrutinize you, I just wanted to let you know.
