Performed by: Teruo Hayashi.
History of the kata:
Originally Learned by Master Mabuni Kenwa from Chinese Master Go Kenki. Master Go kenki made this kata thinking about the moves of a White Crane. The style of this kata is knwon as "Hakkutsuru Style" and it's considered by many experts as the forgotten style of karate.

  • It would have been nice to let us actually see the freaking kata without the unnecessary drama. A normal decently lit background would have been sufficient. If it's such astounding work of art, let it speak for itself.

  • @Koryuhoka this is the reason you arent a film director.

  • Thanks for sharing, a sweet piece. You wouldn't happen to have Naifanchin sandan and ananko?

P.S. - The guy dissing karate, I can't believe you take him seriously, especially when calling Noris invincible, but in my opinion, karate of today is watered down in many dojo's, because it turned in a sport and not a martial art...but not in all.

  • Yes I've got these katas, but, performed by another karateka.

  • This Kata is called Hafua too, in the Shito-ryu of Kenei Mabuni is called Hakucho and is very different; in the Shimpo Matayoshi style is different too, this master was pupil of Gokenki.

  • Thanks about the information. It's a very interesting way of karate.

  • I do not agree with what you say. The action films of chuck norris and all those mediocre players make a lot of harm to karate and martial arts. Hollywood gives us only garbage and is not interested in reporting the true ideology of karate. Hollywwod to chuck norris and only care about winning many dollars

  • @surlupo - your response is the reason I'm gonna call you an asshole.

  • shotokan doesnt even have this kata but it does remind me of gankkaku which means crane on a rock

  • there is another video of Hayashi shihan, performing hakaku in a slightly different way, probably the way as shown here contains a mistake. At 0:55 he has the right leg front for the second time in nekoashi dachi, in the other video it is the left leg.

  • Japanese cranes are so beautiful.

  • @SQNBM within Shito as designated by the founder there were influences of Shaolin Lo Han, White Crane, Black Tiger, and Hsing I. The Hayashi component brought in some of the other family arts and a greater impact from the Kobudo principals practiced by the Okinawans and their native Te.

  • @piratillacibernetico I think that he did an excellent variation of the shito ryu but to divide the style as to better than the father would be a serious mistake and would do disservice. The politics of the group have really caused the entire art to suffer.

  • @karatecloutier77 I studied under Sensei Rankin and he studied under Kuda who was under Hohan Soken. I agree his Hakutsuru is magnificent.

  • @ gojuryukarateka by the way my goju teacher is Curt Jones Senior and Mike Jones his son. He trained with Eiichi Miyazato, Morio Higaonna, Roy Hobbs and Patrick McCarthy. My Shorin teachers trained under Yuichi Kuda and Tadashi Yamashita. Who is your teacher and who did he study under?
