In August of 2008, Bill Moyers interviewed Andrew J. Bacevich, who is a Professor of International Relations at Boston University, as well as a retired Army colonel and West Point graduate.
In this powerful interview, Professor Bacevich makes a strong connection between excessive American consumerism and U.S. foreign policy, politics, and militarism, and speaks eloquently about the need for Americans to look themselves in the mirror.
In this version, the interview is edited and broken into 6 short segments.
The entire interview can be found here: http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/08152008/watch.html
I've heard many liberals tell me "The US is in Iraq for the oil" and I've dismissed them because it was their only talking point.
I love the fact that Mr. Bacevich puts it in context and also the fact that he knows what he's talking about.
There is no reason to build roads, schools and power lines if you're only there for the oil.
Supporting an ally to guarantee access to oil, I can accept that.
