In The Leaves {A Niley Oneshot}

Everything fantastic happened to her at this one spot. She had met all her friends here when they were still just kids. The best day, though, had to be when she met Nick. It had been about this same time of the year. The leaves had been dropping like kamikazes from the trees and the chill wind was just getting started. They were over by the swings when she had been looking sad because there were none left for her. Thats when he had given up his seat for her and even pushed her while she was on it. She remembered she had worn the biggest grin that day, and now twenty years later not only was she wearing the biggest knowing she was still with Nick but it happened to be the perfect weather for a jacket which she pulled tightly to her skin for more warmth. She stood on the bridge overlooking the park and also the river that ran through. She pushed her fingers through her hair when she spotted Nick coming through the trees nervously kicking the golden brown leaves in his path as he approached her. She was also nervous. It was never a good feeling when your boyfriend called you up with the phrase, 'we need to talk.'

"Hey." His voice calmed her but his nervous smile didnt completely wipe away all worries. Maybe she shouldve picked a different place. She didnt want any bad memories in the place where he had asked her to be his girlfriend and they had shared their first kiss. "Miles, I need to ask you something."

"Nick, youre starting to worry me. Ive actually been worried since you called." Her brows creased as she braced herself for future actions on his part.

"You dont have to be worried, Miley. Its nothing bad. I dont think." He said unsure then looked towards the ground again and his gaze didnt come to her for several second. "We've been together for a long time." He stated.

"Yes." She nodded. "Since November 23rd, 2008. My fifteenth birthday." The happiest day of my life, she thought. "Six years ago."

"Yeah," he coughed into his fisted hand and shuffled his fingers through his hair. He looked up at her hoping to make his point clear. "We've had our ups and downs, but I want you to know that I love you, Ray."

"I know that, silly." She laughed and stepped closer laying a light kiss to his lips. "I love you, too."

He smiled as if hearing those words made all his trouble disappear. A cold wind flowed through Mileys hair making her wavy strands blow every way imaginable and she laughed again.

He knelt down in a nearby pile of leaves so that the cement sidewalk would hurt his knee then pulled something from his jacket pocket. He opened the small blue velvet box and held it up to her. "Will you marry me, Ray?"
