  • @300Z31 Well...in drag racing...it has to become second nature....no time to "think"....we train our subconscious mind to do a lot for us....seat time and more seat time! :) Nope don't have to push in the clutch while shifting...or we would all be in trouble! lol -- Hopefully you can come to an event sometime....the pits are open to all fans...and we all would love to have you! :)

  • @katikruz Wow that's so crazy to think about all that. It seems like a TON to think about sitting here, much less IN a car. I had forgotten that T/A actually have 3 speeds. Now when shifting, you're not using the clutch, right?

    Thanks for the post. Very interesting stuff! I would love to be close up to a car like that...sort of with the crew, if you will, at a race. I've always wanted to see the process fro the end of a race, rebuilding, warm-up, to the start of the next race up close.

  • @300Z31 ---to add to my post the "Swapping Feet" at the hit HAS to be done perfectly in sync or the car will not launch properly. then get ready to shift twice..hand on chute lever...pull chute...start grabbing some brake/fully depress clutch/foot off accelerator peddle(all at same time)..as car starts slowing down...hit fuel shut-off...run car outta fuel and hit kill switch still using hand brake to slow car & that's the short of it. Not counting what goes on before starting line and burnout.

  • @300Z31 -- Driving a blown akly car is on of the most difficult drag cars to drive. Just at th starting line...we are holding on the hand brake...fully engaging the clutch and bringing up the rpm's to whatever the crew chief wants us to launch at. The accelerator peddle...doesn't have a lot of travel to it...and barely touching it will bring her up...now! Then holding the rpm's steady....while rolling from pre-stage to stage. See yellow? Let go of the brake...release the clutch and hammer down
