At this level, I believe that guys like him , Gambale, Holdsworth, Lagrene or in a recent past the unbelievable Shawn Lane are way passed the need to impress or to be impressed. I think that the pure joy of being able to play whatever they want in their respective styles, without the usual limitations due to the lack of techniques that most people have to deal with must be enough of a reward. This is truly brilliant. Thanx for posting..

i agree that there are different flavors of virtuosity....just glad i can still be impressed by some of these great players...some of whom are not represented by their recorded material very well...thanks to youtube i have broadened my listening habits.

Maybe he listens to Joe Diorio, Frank Gambale, or Allan Holdsworth. They're just as great...but in completely different ways. My favorite parts of these Scotty videos are the chord/melody solos and the double stop solos. That's where he really shines.

I wonder who Scotty listens to when he wants to hear some kick ass jazz? in other words, who is going to impress him? amazing stuff.
