  • Hey for the record this volvo is an 850T5 not T5R or S70. I know it was not a fair race, but the guy in the Porsche thought his car was the shizznit so I thought I would teach him a lesson w/ my family luxury sedan. I thought it was funny. Don't be bashin me so much. Also he had a minor advantage w/ the manual tranny.

  • Porsche is still better.

  • @CARLOAF1 yeah it does ull see the audi logo all over it

  • Not even a worthwhile race, really. It's pretty obvious which car would win. The 924, 924S, and 944 weren't designed for racing in a straight line - they're built from the ground up to be fun driver's cars.

The 850 T5 & R are pretty decent, but it depends more what you want - an OK-handling, big, safe FWD sedan, or a communicative, low-slung, old-school sports car.

There's something to be said for the overall "feel" of a classic Porsche that's impossible to beat.

  • Thumbs up to me. haha.

  • looks like a 924S instead of a 924. the volvo is fast but that Porsche is a gorgeous car.

  • I have owned both cars, a 1977 Porsche 924 and a 1993 & 1994 Volvo 850 T5, let me assure you that the Porsche is not half the car the Volvo is. The Volvo accelerates harder, handles better, pulls up faster and is much more comfortable to drive. On a trip from Sydney to Melbourne (Nearly 900km), i used only 70lts of fuel in the Volvo, and that was in a turbo Automatic! Please don't be fooled by the Volvos of old (Fairly slow & not the best handling), 850s and other new Volvos are fantastic cars.

  • im surprised the volvo wasnt quicker, we have an old porsche 924 2 litre 125 bhp about 113bhp per ton, the advantage the porsche would have would be around a track with twists and turns, plus the 924 can still do 30mpg even if driven fairly hard i doubt you would get 25mpg out of a volvo turbo. good video though

  • The 2L motor was modified by porsche but the basic block was used in audis, vw's, gremlins and even diesel tractors! It wasn't 'just' in a VW LT.

  • This looks like a 924S to me. Non-turbo body plus 5 stud wheels. So it would be about 143hp if it was a '87 and about 150hp if it was an '88... I can't remember what the US spec was but they're less than the Rest of World models.

  • My old toyota celica took early 924s all day, but there is no way my celica could dream of touching my 944, that was an easy race
