  • He did try to sing like Jimmie Rodgers. A lot of them back then, when they first started out (Ernest Tubb, Hank Snow, Jimmie Davis, and Cliff Carlisle). They all tried to sing like Jimmie before they found their own styles. This is great. Thanks for posting. I love Gene's early stuff like this. They are very hard to find.

  • "Stay away from my chicken house, boys, or I'll cut you down Mexican-style."

The greatest song lyric in human history.

  • @alliecat1941 yes, if you listen to his older songs, he always tried to sound like Jimmie Rodgers...he did a very good imitation, but hewas so good in his own right...I'm glad he found his own style.

  • I think Gene was doing his Jimmy Rodgers singing style when he recorded this. I understand he loved the great JR....Thank God he finally got his own singing style. I'm not a Rodgers fan, but I love Gene Autry.

  • This song was written by Frank Marvin that also played the guitar on the song.

  • I think he was singing as a cartoon character.

  • you sure this is gene autry..?sounds a little too high pitched for him

  • I went in the chickenhouse

  • what a giant vagina full of centipedes.
