Further testing to resolve my water ingress problems I have identified the door seals on the metal panel have failed.

This is because VW use a foam that perishes over time and after weathering has caused them to lose contact with the door.

You can clearly see in the video it is running on the inside of the panel, normally what should happen is that it should fall out through holes in the bottom of the doors of the Passat. This is not happening as such it is overflowing the main door seals.

I will either use genuine VW sealing cord to repair this. Which is like a rubber based seal (part number AKD A97 010 0R 410) which fits any cars in the VAG family (i.e Seat, VW, Skoda, Audi) or some silicone sealant.

Silicone sealant will be cheaper as the sealing cord from VW costs £25 for a full box of 10m.
